Se declara el manatí (Trichechus manatus) símbolo de la fauna marina de Costa Rica y de la esperanza e interés de la niñez costarricense en la protección de los recursos naturales presentes en el territorio nacional.
ARTÍCULO 2.- Competencia institucional
Le corresponde al Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía hacer cumplir todas las leyes y los convenios internacionales que estén relacionados con la conservación y protección de los manatíes y su hábitat.
English (translation)ARTICLE 1.- Declaration
The manatee (Trichechus manatus) is declared a symbol of the marine fauna of Costa Rica and of the hope and interest of Costa Rican children in the protection of natural resources present in the national territory.
ARTICLE 2.- Institutional competence
The Ministry of Environment and Energy is responsible for enforcing all laws and international agreements related to the conservation and protection of manatees and their habitat.

ARTÍCULO 1.- Declaratoria
Se declara el manatí (Trichechus
manatus) símbolo de la fauna marina de Costa Rica
y de la esperanza e interés de la niñez costarricense en la protección de los
recursos naturales presentes en el territorio nacional.
ARTÍCULO 2.- Competencia institucional
Le corresponde al Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía hacer
cumplir todas las leyes y los convenios internacionales que estén relacionados
con la conservación y protección de los manatíes y su hábitat.
ARTÍCULO 3.- Programas de educación y sensibilización
Las instituciones de gobierno, las organizaciones no gubernamentales,
las empresas privadas y públicas deberán promover y colaborar en programas de
educación y sensibilización dirigidos a la conservación del manatí y su
hábitat, de conformidad con lo establecido en la Ley N.° 7554, Ley Orgánica del
Ambiente, de 4 de octubre de 1995.

DECREES:

AS A NATIONAL SYMBOL OF THE MARINE FAUNA
OF COSTA RICA
ARTICLE 1.- Declaration
The manatee (Trichechus manatus) is declared a symbol of the marine fauna of Costa Rica and of the hope and interest of Costa Rican children in the protection of the natural resources present in the national territory.
ARTICLE 2.- Institutional Competence
It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment and Energy to enforce all laws and international agreements related to the conservation and protection of manatees and their habitat.
ARTICLE 3.- Education and Awareness Programs
Government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private and public companies shall promote and collaborate in education and awareness programs aimed at the conservation of the manatee and its habitat, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 7554, Organic Law of the Environment, of October 4, 1995.
It shall take effect upon its publication.
